| This alphabetical index provides a listing of all the descriptors (preferred terms) in the Thesaurus. Descriptors are "Official Terms" of the Thesaurus that have been selected by indexers to represent the subject matter of database records. Consequently, these terms are used to index the database and are recommended for use in search strategies to retrieve desired records. |
Use the Find Term feature
located at the top and bottom of the screen to locate a term within the Alphabetic Index
(All Descriptors). Just type the term you are looking for in the text box provided and
click on the Find Term button
A navigation bar containing alphabetical links is also provided at the
top of the screen. Click on any of these alphabetic links to browse through the list of
all the descriptors (preferred terms) beginning with that particular alphabet. Scroll
through the list or use the Find Term button |
| Clicking on terms within the Alphabetical Index (All Descriptors) will take you to their occurrence in the Tree Display (Hierarchy). To view the Term Report of any term, click on its occurrence in the Tree Display (Hierarchy). |
To move to the Beginning of Thesaurus (Tree Display) or to view Term Reports or to switch between various indices within the Thesaurus, use the links provided under the Browse Thesaurus Options heading at the bottom of the screen. Word Permutations Index: This alphabetical index provides
access to a list of permutations for single words of interest. |
| Descriptors can be added to search strategies from the
Thesaurus. Just mark the descriptors you want to insert by clicking into the check boxes
located to the left of the thesaurus descriptors. Use the following buttons to insert the
descriptors into your strategy. Click on the Add to Search Field button Click on the Overwrite Search Field button The default Boolean search operator or is applied when more than one descriptor is added to your search strategy. |
| Click the Next section link located at the bottom of the screen to display the next set of descriptors and the Previous section link located at the top of the screen to display the previous set of descriptors. |
